ChatGPT 5: Cutting through the noise (part 1)

Hey there,

ChatGPT 5 came out while I was away on holiday, so I’m only now getting my head around it.

That’s the challenge with new AI models, isn’t it? They arrive with huge buzz… and then we don’t know what to do with them or how to use them in real life. And that’s completely normal, it's the same for everyone no matter what your level.

The best place to start I think is by simply knowing what’s new.

Once you understand the upgrades, it becomes much easier to spot where they fit into your business.

Like I tell my students, there is no user manual for AI, you just need to play with the tools, but you need to know what you are playing with :)

To help you do this, I've put together a 3-part email series in which I will share the new ChatGPT 5 features that actually matter for us as solopreneurs, coaches, and small business owners. My goal is to help you cut through the noise and make the most of the updates.

Here’s what’s important to know right now about how ChatGPT 5 is better than the older versions:

Default model shift
ChatGPT 5 is now the default model across the platform. GPT-4o and earlier versions are only available under Legacy Models if you want to switch back, but really there is no need to in my opinion.

Better, sharper writing
One of the subtle but important changes: GPT-5’s writing feels clearer, more natural, and less sycophantic. In other words, it’s less likely to just “agree” with you and more likely to give you the strong, useful drafts you need.

Deeper thinking & coding power
ChatGPT 5 isn’t just faster, it’s smarter. By using the Canvas tool, it can now write full pieces of working software in minutes, from client ROI calculators to mini websites. This means you can go from “idea” to “live tool” without hiring a developer or writing a single line of code.

Persistent memory (enhanced, but optional)
If you’ve used ChatGPT memory before (found in settings > personalisation), this is the same feature, just much more reliable. Memory lets GPT-5 remember things about you across sessions (like your brand voice, writing style, or recurring preferences).

  • If you turn it on → it remembers and applies those details every time you come back.
  • If you keep it off → it works like the old models, starting fresh each time.

Massive context handling
GPT-5 can now process hundreds of pages at once. Drop in a full playbook, a long transcript, or multiple client documents, and it can use all that information without losing track.

Speed + accuracy
Responses are 30–50% faster and it hallucinates less. Which means less time fact-checking and editing.

Why this matters (for you):

  • Need stronger copy? → You’ll spend less time polishing ChatGPT’s drafts, because GPT-5 is already writing in a more professional, less “yes-man” style.
  • That proposal you’ve been putting off? → With GPT-5 in Canvas Mode, you can draft the content, structure the sections, and even format it into a polished, on-brand proposal in one go.
  • You can then make quick edits (“Add my logo,” “Switch to dark mode,” “Tighten the pricing table”) using plain English — no fiddling with Word docs or Canva templates.
  • Struggle with brand consistency across platforms? → If you haven't trained ChatGPT on your voice yet, with memory on, your voice will stay aligned every time.
  • Facing content overload? → Upload a workshop transcript and repurpose it into posts, blogs, and emails in minutes.
  • Want to scale without outsourcing everything? → Build your own calculators, dashboards, or proposal tools — instantly, right inside Canvas Mode.

This is just the beginning. I’ll keep experimenting with GPT-5 myself and share what I learn, so you can put it to work in your business without the overwhelm.

Did you find this useful?

>>>> Next up in this series (Email 2): How GPT-5 impacts Custom GPTs, and what you should update (or not) to make the most of them.

Stay tuned.

Hey Reader, There is so much going on in the AI space and it is practically impossible to keep up with it as we get into 2026. I work in AI full time and cannot keep up with the pace; so, I recommend you don't even try to. Is that a relief? :) The one thing we do need to know, accept and embrace is that in 2026, generative AI will become a core - even "native" might I say - part of how we run our business, create content, and connect with our audience.
