A friend said something to me over lunch and I can't stop thinking about it.

We were talking about money mindset - the way your self-worth can get tangled up with what you earn - and she looked at me and said: "Have you tried talking it through with ChatGPT? That's what I did. Really helped me resolve some long-standing issues."

She even referred to ChatGPT as "him."

I didn't know where to start. So I just nodded.

That lunch is what sparked this week's piece on Substack. I wrote about why we're anthropomorphising AI (speaking to it as if it is human); what the research says about how people are actually using these tools; and three types of AI slop that are making us worse at our jobs.

I also wrote about what I've been noticing in myself with my increasing use of AI. Something I'm not comfortable admitting.

You can read the full issue here.

I publish this newsletter on Substack, under the name Women in the Loop. If you haven't been there yet, here's what it is.

Every week I write about AI for women who what to stay in the loop about AI without trying to keep up with it all. Not the hype, not the news or fear; and not the "ten prompts to change your life" content.

Just honest, practical thinking about how to "stay in the loop" and use these AI in a way that actually makes your work and life better - without handing over your voice, your judgment, or your brain in the process.

It's for you if you're somewhere in the middle. You're using AI, or thinking about it seriously. You want to use it well. And you want to stay sharp while you do.

It's free to subscribe. You'll get the weekly newsletter straight to your inbox, same as you do now, plus everything that happens in between.

If you'd rather stay here, that's completely fine too. But if what I just described sounds like your kind of place, I'd love to see you there.
