[Part 2] What GPT-5 means for your Custom GPTs

Hey there,

A few days ago I shared what’s new in ChatGPT-5 overall (part 1 of this email series) - things like its sharper writing, deeper reasoning, massive context window, and the new Canvas Mode that can turn ideas into live tools.

If you didn't catch it, you can read it here.

Today is Part 2 of this 3-part series, and we’re diving into Custom GPTs.

Now, I rely on Custom GPTs for everything.
I’ve built myself a team of AI assistants:

  • For my content
  • As my personal assistant
  • For my podcast
  • For my clients
  • For research
  • For for polishing my emails
  • For parenting advice
  • For exercise and diet reference

>> For those of you who may not know what a Custom GPT is…
Think of it as your own personalised version of ChatGPT that you can train with your instructions, resources, and brand voice. It can act like a copywriter, assistant, coach, or analyst that already “knows you.” For solopreneurs and small business owners, it’s the fastest way to multiply yourself without hiring a team.

If you haven’t yet built a Custom GPT but want to… I’ve got a training that can help you create one to be your content assistant in just 90 minutes. <<

👉 So when GPT-5 came out, the first thing I needed to know was:

What happens to the GPTs I’ve already built?

Here’s the short answer: you don’t need to rebuild them. (Phew!)

OpenAI has migrated old ChatGPT-4 custom GPTs into GPT-5 automatically, so your hard work doesn’t disappear.

But - like with any upgrade - there are some changes you’ll want to know about so you can make the most of it.

What’s changed for your Custom GPTs:

Better writing, reasoning and responses
In GPT-4, you often had to go back and forth a lot to get reliable step-by-step outputs. GPT-5 writers better; and thinks smarter and faster, enabling your GPTs to give you more quality and reliable answers on multi-stage tasks like course outlines, launch plans, or funnel copy.

Handles way more context
If you’ve ever tried to feed your GPT your entire playbook or a long client document, you know it can lose track halfway. With GPT-5, the context window it can accept to perform a task is huge (think hundreds of pages). This means your Custom GPTs can stay on-brand and on-topic without going off path.

More personalization built-in
You now have new “personality” modes plus memory that’s more consistent. So your Custom GPTs can sound more like you and less like a generic assistant. This is especially powerful if you want consistency in your brand voice across newsletters, proposals, and social posts. (more on this in the next email!)

So, what do you need to do?

Nothing urgent.

Your existing GPTs will keep working, and most will get stronger just by being on GPT-5.

The opportunity for you is to revisit them - add in memory, expand context in the knowledge bank, refine instructions, so they truly become your business sidekick. Infact, this is something you should be doing anyway.

This is how I see it:
➡️ In GPT-4, Custom GPTs were a brilliant nice-to-have
➡️ In GPT-5, they’re becoming more serious and non-negotiable business tools.

I’m experimenting with this upgrade myself and will be rebuilding some of my custom GPTs to see if I can get them to perform better.

Will share once I’ve played around enough.

Did you find this useful?

Hey Reader, There is so much going on in the AI space and it is practically impossible to keep up with it as we get into 2026. I work in AI full time and cannot keep up with the pace; so, I recommend you don't even try to. Is that a relief? :) The one thing we do need to know, accept and embrace is that in 2026, generative AI will become a core - even "native" might I say - part of how we run our business, create content, and connect with our audience. To give you a high-level overview of...

Hey Reader, I still can’t believe I vibe-coded this tool I'm sharing with you in this email. 😲 Like… I built an actual tool that will support you in taking a time-consuming task off your plate...I built it in just 1 hour.
